“We had spacious modern and quiet rooms to the back with large balconies. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast and the course dinners were all excellent, some of the best food we had in a long time. A bonus is the large homemade cake selection available during tea time. We will definitely come back.”
“Serene view from the hotel room's window. Very helpful staff, excellent restaurant that offers a truly spectacular selection of wines. The room is not well equipped with charging stations and hence not really the room for business travellers, otherwise it's a fine blend of modern furnishing and 19th century vibe.”
“Only had some coffee and cake, but it was a lovely location!”
“I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Der Engel in Sasbachwalden, Germany. A truly charming and memorable stop in the heart of the Black Forest. This restaurant is located within a historic hotel dating back to 1764, set in a beautiful village that is well worth visiting on its own. The interior is very elegant, with rich wooden paneling and a timeless, refined atmosphere that immediately reflects the heritage of the place. We stopped in specifically to enjoy pastries and hot drinks, and the experience was excellent. We ordered a slice of Black Forest cake (Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte), which was impressively generous in size — in my opinion, easily enough to share between two people. Most importantly, it was absolutely delicious: perfectly balanced chocolate, light and creamy layers, flavorful cherries, and just the right touch of kirsch. A textbook example of how this iconic dessert should be made. The service was equally delightful. The staff were attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming, dressed in traditional attire, which added a lovely and authentic touch to the overall experience and made the visit even more special. I would highly recommend both visiting the village and stopping at this hotel for a meal, dessert, or a coffee break. For those arriving by car, there is a convenient village parking area just 3–4 minutes’ walk from the hotel, which makes access very easy. A wonderful place to pause, indulge, and enjoy the atmosphere of the Black Forest.”
“Fantastic restaurant with amazing food and excellent all round service. Great selection of dishes from the menu or you can try the preset menus. Everything we tried tasted great and was presented beautifully. Staff is very professional and friendly. Dogs are also welcome which is a huge plus. I was told that this place changed a lot over the years, the current look is very modern and had a welcoming atmosphere. I would be happy to come back anytime. We didn’t stay at this hotel, so I am not able to comment on the rooms and accommodation.”
“We had a lovely stay and were genuinely impressed by the kindness and professionalism of the entire team. The room was spacious, beautifully arranged, and exceptionally clean. Our compliments to housekeeping! Breakfast was a generous treat: great selection, quality ingredients, and the freshly made scrambled eggs were simply perfect. However, my night was seriously disturbed by the constant noise from the room above. Unfortunately, the guests upstairs paced (very loudly) back and forth every 5-10 minutes between 11 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. and then again starting from 5:30 a.m. I was woken up repeatedly all night and considered knocking on their door many times but didn’t want to wake my fiancé, who was sleeping peacefully with earplugs. Plus with the fury this situation put me in, it would not have gone well. It’s not the hotel’s fault, of course, but the lack of sound insulation due to the vintage parquet flooring is something to keep in mind. If you’re a light sleeper, I strongly recommend requesting a top-floor room or bringing earplugs.”
